I recently tried a new keto creamer that I found at Costco called Karma Kafe Keto Creamer. It is a powdered coffee creamer made with butter and MCT oil that does not require refrigeration. It would definitely be convenient to have a creamer options that does not need to be kept in the fridge, like heavy cream, or blended up like traditional butter coffee. Can this really replace cream or butter in your morning coffee? Read on to find out!
I found this product at my local Costco in central Texas, but stock can vary a lot by region. The creamer is also available for sale at their website karmakafe.co
The ingredients are coconut milk powder, coconut oil, MCT oil, grass fed butter, vanilla extract, and Himalayan pink sea salt. I think these ingredients are great and I wouldn’t hesitate to use any of these in my coffee!
Each serving is a single tablespoon and there are about 45 servings per package. Each tablespoon serving contains 2 grams of net carbs, 6 grams of fat, 0 grams of protein and 70 calories.
Taste and Texture
The instructions on this product state you can mix 1 tablespoon with hot or cold beverages. I was a bit skeptical about mixing a powdered, high fat creamer into a cold liquid so I put it to the test.
With hot coffee, the tablespoon of creamer emulsified into the coffee after about 30 seconds of vigorous stirring. The coffee tastes very similar to a homemade bulletproof style coffee, with a bit of sweetness and coconut flavor.
With cold coffee, the results weren’t so great. After adding the creamer to cold coffee I stirred vigorously and there were still clumps. I kept stirring, for what felt like more than a minute and there were still huge clumps of creamer. Finally I broke out my trusty milk frother which I use to make butter coffee. Even after using the milk frother I could not get the creamer smooth. I ended up reheating my coffee in order to mix the creamer in. Sadly, this isn’t going to work for my summer iced coffees.
For my overall rating I give it a 4 out of 5. If you are looking for a convenient creamer option for travel or pantry storage, I think this is a great option. There are no strange ingredients, but rather ingredients that are sought after on the keto diet. The caveat is that you need to use it with hot liquid. If you are a die hard iced coffee or iced tea person, you probably won’t be happy with the results of this product. I ice my coffee almost every day in the summer and for that reason, I had to knock it down a point, especially since the package directions say you can mix this into cold drinks.
